Main Content:

To provide Human Factors and Human Behaviour Performance expertise in support of the European Astronaut Centre’s training design and development activities.

 

Responsibilities / Duties

The required support is to be provided to European Space Agency’s Astronaut Training division, responsible for the development and implementation of astronauts and flight controllers training activities in the areas of general astronaut skills and operations of the Human Spaceflight segment.

The tasks include:

  • Support to design, development, logistics preparation, co-facilitation and follow-up administration of Human Factors, Human Behaviour and Performance (HBP), and Instructor Training Courses (ITC) courses for astronauts, ground support personnel and personnel of Analogue environments
  • Maintenance of the HBP course catalogues in the Astronaut Training Database, update of lesson plans, and maintenance of training records.
  • Support to the coordination and implementation of HBP seminars and events, including logistics preparation and arrangements.
  • Support to the review of International Space Station Partners’ HBP training and HBP Working Group activities
  • Support EAC Human Factors activities, including training, reviews, collection of lessons learned
  • Review and summary preparation of Human Factors and HBP-related publications and transfer into the EAC Human Factors library
  • Co-authoring of EAC publications on Human Factors and HBP training

 

Qualifications / Experience

  • University degree in Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, Social Sciences Anthropology or equivalent
  • Experience in Crew Resource Management, Human Factors or related training development / delivery
  • Subject matter expertise on the development and/or use of competency models in training or recruitment
  • Subject matter expertise on environments analogous to space (operational, military, aerospace, nuclear, railroad, exploration, oil rigs, Antarctica)
  • Good working experience in Human Factors or related training development
  • Subject matter expertise on Human Behaviour Performance

  • Strong proven delivery skills, ability to prepare and deliver structured, clear, concise presentations. Effective use of training media
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, workload management, decision making, and problem solving skills
  • Strong self motivation and ability to work independently, while also having the ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Mastery of the English language, in both spoken and written form

 

Desirable Skills

  • Expertise on the International Space Station HBP competency model
  • Expertise on International Space Station and/or analogous environment
