Toulouse Space Show
8-11 June 2010, Toulouse, France
The Toulouse Space Show is an international event dedicated to
telecommunication and Space Applications, for all areas of the
Space industry including large organisations, SMEs, research
centers, and users of Space applications (surveyors, town planners,
farmers, doctors and archaeologists).
The 2010 event centred around the following seven major
events:
- SPACE APPLI - 3rd international conference on space
applications
- TECHNO DIS - 2nd symposium on technological breakthroughs in
space activities
- ECO SPACE - Space Symposium and Economy "in 2010 what are the
prospects of the space sector?"
- Workshop NEREUS - Network of European Regions Users of Space
technology
- S@TCOM 2010: Symposium on "New Deal - the complementarity of
terrestrial and satellite telecommunication"
- An international exhibition
- Associated technical events and events for the general public,
students and young people aimed at promoting the value of Space
applications in civil life
At the 2010 Toulouse Space Show, VEGA Technologies presented
papers on the the following topics:
- The GPU (Graphic Processing Unit), previously a standard CPU’s
peripheral component, has become a major component of any computer.
While it was originally dedicated to the generation of 3D real-time
images, the GPU came by its processing capacity to exceed the CPU
in terms of performance and costs to specific operations (massively
parallel processing for example). Based on this assumption, CNES
(French National Space Agency) started a project in 2008 to use GPU
Computing for Earth Observation Image Processing. This project,
developed by VEGA Technologies, was to evaluate the interest for
CNES to implement the technological upgrades offered by GPU
Computing. The result of this project will be presented by
VEGA at Toulouse Space Show 2010.
- The ISIS programme - 'Promoting the Scientific Use of Spot
Imaging' - is a CNES initiative set up in 1990 to facilitate
access to data from SPOT imagery for the French and European
scientific community. ISIS offers researchers a range of products
at a special rate. Any researcher, teacher or student working in a
laboratory or an institute of higher education in the EU can
benefit from the ISIS project. Administered by VEGA Technologies
SAS, a central part of the ISIS project is www.isis-cnes.fr website
- a portal of communication between project participants: CNES,
SPOT and users. It allows to order archived images, 3D products and
to order programming. Products specialized in the study of glaciers
(data from the SPIRIT catalogue) will also be incorporated during
the year 2010. Since its establishment ten years ago, ISIS has
shown strong activity with 338 cases ordered by 212 people.
Images ordered by the users have enabled the development of
applications in various fields such as agriculture, topography,
environment, geology, forestry.
