RapidEye - Commercial Earth Observation
RapidEye offers a unique and competitive satellite system
consisting of 5 satellites, ground stations, a data processing
centre and internet-based information distribution. RapidEye
satellites will offer reliable, predictable, cost effective and
high quality information about features on the Earth’s surface, to
agriculture and cartographic customers.
RapidEye satellites will be able to monitor fields on a
worldwide scale and to accurately predict the world harvest for
different crops and revolutionise the agriculture, industrial and
trading market sectors. Creating and maintaining up-to-date maps of
the world is currently impossible but will be achievable with
RapidEye’s service.
VEGA has been awarded a three year framework to provide
technical consultancy support for the full procurement cycle,
from requirements review to in-orbit acceptance for a complete
system.
VEGA was selected as a partner for RapidEye because of its
extensive experience in satellite operations and control as well as
procurement support. The technical consultancy for RapidEye will be
coordinated from VEGA’s office in Germany based in Darmstadt,
bringing together the relevant expertise available throughout the
VEGA Group.
Michael Oxfort, member of the Management Team of RapidEye
commented: “We are very happy to have such an experienced partner
as VEGA working with us. With their expertise and knowledge about
Earth observation missions we are more than confident that we will
successfully implement our geo-information system serving the needs
of our customers.”
