VEGA sponsors second RAeS Space Tourism Conference
15 June 2009 – VEGA, a leading
name in the European Space industry, is again sponsoring the Royal
Aeronautical Society’s (RAeS) Space Tourism conference, taking
place at Hamilton Place, in London on Tuesday 30 June 2009.
Following the success of their inaugural Space
Tourism conference in 2006, also sponsored by VEGA, the Society
will again provide a platform for prominent industry leaders to
outline the latest news from their pioneering projects. Subject
matter experts will also present their opinions about the
challenges facing the industry today.
Until now, the only access to Space for the
commercial market has been to spend millions of dollars visiting
the International Space Station, a dream only accessible to a very
fortunate few. Today, Scaled Composites’ SpaceShipOne has proved
that affordable and widely accessible sub-orbital spaceflight is
within reach. There are now several organisations investing heavily
and striving to make commercial vehicles to help the public be able
to experience Space travel.
John Auburn, VEGA’s Aerospace Business
Director, said: “VEGA is very interested in the concept of Space
Tourism. We have worked on numerous projects supporting Human
Spaceflight programmes including developing the astronauts training
package at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, and working on
the Automated Transfer Vehicle that provides the International
Space Station with supplies. We are excited about the potential of
Space Tourism in opening up the market, and, crucially, allowing
cheaper access to Space.”
John Loizou, VEGA’s Head of Service
Management, will again be chairing the day’s conference, which will
feature senior representatives from Virgin Galactic, Space
Adventures, the European Space Agency and the Spaceport Scotland
Support Group.
This Space Tourism conference is a must for
anyone looking for the latest news on recent developments in this
emerging industry, as it aims to bring together those who will
contribute to making Space Tourism a reality.
