VEGA opens new office at Harwell Innovation Campus
5 February 2010 – VEGA officially opened its office on the
Harwell Innovation Campus last week, at which a number of key Space
stakeholders were present to share this significant event.
The decision by VEGA to have a dedicated office at Harwell is
evidence of the company’s commitment to the UK Government’s
strategy of developing a UK Space Agency. It also demonstrates
VEGA’s ongoing support to the European Space Agency (ESA), for whom
the company has worked since 1978.
It is hoped that the Harwell Innovation Campus will be the
centre of the UK’s Space activities, housing the new UK Space
Agency. The site is already home to the Science and Technology
Foundation Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratories and ESA’s UK
Centre.
Michael Clayforth-Carr, CEO of VEGA’s parent company SELEX
Systems Integration, said: “We envisage VEGA’s Harwell office
enabling us to be at the heart of the UK’s Space activities,
helping us work more closely with our customers and build long-term
collaborations. We are also excited about the way in which the
Space industry is moving forward in the UK. With ESA investing in a
UK Centre here at Harwell, and the recent announcement about the
establishment of a UK Space Agency, it is clear that Space is now
gaining more Government recognition and attracting the interest and
understanding of the general public.
“VEGA’s Business Director for Space, John Auburn, is heavily
involved with the Space Innovation and Growth Team, which will be
outlining the UK’s Space strategy for the next 20 years on the 10
February 2010, and is also supporting the International Space
Innovation Centre and other initiatives. This is a very exciting
time for both VEGA and the UK’s Space industry,” added Michael.
